Early Childhood Standards
Below are direct links to standards for early childhood programs in the state of Iowa. In order to be a considered a Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program in the state of Iowa, preschool programs must adhere to at least one of the following set of quality preschool program standards: NAEYC/Shared Visions, Head Start Performance Standards or Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards (IQPPS).

Together, the PLAEA Early Childhood and Literacy Teams have created an evidenced based, literacy scope and sequence “bank” for 4 & 5-year-olds. Preschool programs can use this tool to discover the stages in which literacy naturally occurs at those ages. The PLAEA Emergent Literacy Resources for Preschool Programs “bank," helps support teachers in using what is readily available in the Creative Curriculum, and evidence based strategies.
