OpenSciEd is extending its work to the elementary level. This project will be focused on the development and implementation of high-quality, standards-aligned instructional materials for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. As a partner state, Iowa will again play a role in the development and revision process by field testing and providing feedback on classroom units. Once complete, the curriculum materials will be free and publicly available as the OpenSciEd middle school and high school science curriculum are.
Approximately 25 Iowa teachers will be selected to field test the units at each grade level and provide feedback to OpenSciEd and to participate in the data collection (i.e. interviews/learning logs, collecting student work/exit tickets, pre/post surveys).
All interested teachers and districts are welcome to apply to participate. The application period is open until Monday, Feb. 20. Both the DISTRICT and TEACHER application forms need to be completed by that day. For more details, please review the Project Overview document. (This document includes the timeline for the field test, including dates for professional learning in July 2023.
