Rachel Halma, Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Iowa Lakes Community College, organized a career fair on Tuesday, April 8, in Emmetsburg. Students from Bishop Garrigan, Estherville Lincoln Central, Emmetsburg, Graettinger-Terril, Ruthven-Ayrshire, Spirit Lake, and West Bend attended the event.
Prairie Lakes AEA was represented by Erin Christensen (Early Childhood), Jessica Hansen (Speech), and Laura Reinders (Behavior), who shared insights into career paths in education and the degrees required for those roles.
The event featured a wide variety of vendors—including law enforcement, medical professionals, wind energy, banking, tourism, DNR, and more—giving students a broad look at future career opportunities. PLAEA’s booth drew in about half of the 300 students with colorful brochures, fun giveaways, and a prize wheel. One student even recognized her sister on a flyer, adding a personal touch to the experience.
