Substitute Authorization Class

Prairie Lakes AEA is offering a minimum 15-hour course that would allow an individual to be a substitute teacher. Full participation in all instructional sessions and completion of online instruction and assignments are required for this course.

 

 

Limited Substitute Authorization License

Receiving a Limited Substitute Authorization will allow an individual who holds a paraeducator certificate with the limited substitute authorization to serve as a substitute only in their own special education classroom.

A 'limited' substitute authorization would include:

  • someone who holds a paraeducator certificate
  • completion of the substitute authorization course but
  • does not have an AA degree/60 college credits completed
  • Substitute teaching is limited to substituting only in the special education classroom where they are assigned to work as a paraprofessional for no more than 5 consecutive days.

Cost: $100 License renewal credit (additional fees payable to the BOEE when applying for license) & cost of materials
