New legislation has driven a change in Mandatory Reporter training in Iowa. Effective July 1, 2024, all staff licensed through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners will now complete training every three years for both Mandatory Reporter of Child Abuse and Mandatory Reporter of Dependent Adult Abuse. The new legislation, HF 2404, can be found on the Iowa Legislative website.
Key Changes
- The 1-hour recertification courses for Mandatory Reporter of Child Abuse and Mandatory Reporter of Dependent Adult Abuse are no longer available.
- Individuals whose Mandatory Reporter training is expiring or has expired must take the new training courses.
Current Enrollees
- Participants currently enrolled in or actively taking the initial Mandatory Reporter of Child Abuse or Mandatory Reporter of Dependent Adult Abuse trainings can still complete these courses to maintain their certification and compliance with current standards.
- Those attempting to sign up for the initial training courses will be redirected to a STOP page that links to the new version. A message will advise participants who paid for the training to contact AEA Learning Online Support for a transfer to the new version.

Due to the maximum capacity allowances in the online learning system, we offer these tips to complete the training: log in outside of regular school hours, don't wait until the last minute to get training finished, and when possible, complete training after the Aug. 23 school start date.
